I have a lot of friends who are amazing artists and they use this technique. A lot of their art is very dramatic and rich colors help to portray that effectively. Using dramatic contrasts also adds a lot to the drama of their art work. It is amazing how long ago this technique started being used and the fact that it is still in use is very interesting.
