museum visit

My visit to the Cantor Museum was really fun. I thought that it was really cool that it was free to get into, and yet the museum was very nice and beautiful. There were so many different kinds of art from so many different time periods. The piece of art that I found interesting was called Sacrifice of Jeroboam by Moeyaert. This painting has many idealized figures and represents part of the Bible. The artist used light to dramatize the confrontation between King Jeroboam and "the man of God." Overall I found it to be a really great experience, and I had never been to that museum before so it was cool to see some new things.

I think that Talbot's perseverance to create a camera that would not leave him frustrated is inspiring. He worked so hard and discovered new ideas and techniques to make it work. Obviously this relates to everyday life because the camera is a widely used piece of equipment. His starting work led the way for the modern day cameras, and his perseverance is inspiring to create more useful things.

I think that society is what leads to art. Popular types of art changes through the times because the culture changes. It also explains why different types of art are popular in different countries, because the culture is different. Art was also used to document and event or describe something going on in society at that time. People used to be very influenced by art. Now people are still interested in art and appreciate it, but we don't use it as much for entertainment. Our entertainment has become the media. Commercials are designed to influence watchers, and magazines show celebrities doing community service, then a bunch of people decide to copy that.

Much like the Dutch appreciated their country a long time ago, today , at least in Los Gatos, we appreciate the country. My friends and I like to go up to the top of the mountains and enjoy the view. We usually go around sunset and bring dinner. We also like to go by Vasona Lake. The lake is absolutely amazing and it is so relaxing. Even as cities are expanding we are still able to find joy in nature and really appreciate it. 

techniques throught the ages

The technique that many artists began to develop by using rich colors and dramatic contrasts of light and dark is used a lot today. I have a lot of friends who are amazing artists and they use this technique. A lot of their art is very dramatic and rich colors help to portray that effectively. Using dramatic contrasts also adds a lot to the drama of their art work. It is amazing how long ago this technique started being used and the fact that it is still in use is very interesting.

A lot of the architecture from this time is still cherished today. People come from all over the world to see buildings like the Vatican. These buildings are continually restored so that people can come and enjoy their beauty. Architects today try to make their designs so that in the future people will cherish them and want to come see them. Some architects also model their designs after these old buildings.

Much like in Italian Renaissance people today with wealth have much more power than the average person. Although now a days the amount of money that a person has is not their typical topic of conversation, they still have power, and other people are aware of it. Like the condotteiri who owed allegiance to only those who paid them well, many political figures are paid to do one thing or another. Paying these political figures off gives more power to the wealth people who are paying them to do as they ask.

The Flemish tapestry making that started to come about in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries reminds me of tapestries that my friend has in her house. Like many of the tapestries that were made in history my friend has a lot of ones with flower patterns. They hang on her walls just as the tapestries did 0n the walls of the fifteenth and sixteenth century people. Every time I go to her house I am very interested in the details of these tapestries. Each one is so intricate and looks like so much work. I also admire the people who are able to make them and come up with the interesting designs that keep me looking at it. In her house the tapestries are used purely for decoration unlike in history when they were used for both insulation and decoration.

I love paintings of nature. I noticed one in the textbook by Georgia O'keeffe called Red Canna. My backyard has a lot of interesting plants. Many that I don't know the names of, but they are all very beautiful. The flower in this picture reminds me of one of the flowers in my backyard. The colors in this painting are absouluely amazing. I love how the red draws the eye toward the center, and then out to the rest of the painting. The colors are very saturated, and keep me interested while looking at the painting.
I know this is probably cliche, but I also love Van Gough's Starry Night. The town that is below the mountain is so peaceful, and it reminds of Los Gatos at night. At night Los Gatos is pretty much abandonned, but still feels extremely peaceful. The value in the different areas keeps the painting interesting, and it makes it so I can't look away. The moon seems to reflect a lot of light so there are a lot of different vaules.
Another painting that I can relate to really well is The Star, by Degas. I like a lot of Degas paintings because he paints dancers. I am really into dance, and have been dancing my whole life. The dancer in this picture seems so graceful, and reminds me of one of my dance classes.
